What is Microsoft Power Automate?

Power Automate also known as Microsoft Flows is low code/no code asynchronous tool which helps you create automated flows which could be triggered manually or automatically to connect with different applications to perform the actions. You need to provide a Flow name and start your operations with adding actions on click of button.

Power Automate has connectors which makes it easy to perform various automated actions e.g. Updating a SharePoint list through SharePoint connector. You can also create custom connectors for services for which prebuilt connectors are not available.

There are basically five types of Power Automate flows:

  1. Scheduled Cloud Flow
  2. Automated Cloud flow
  3. Instant Cloud Flow
  4. Desktop Flow
  5. Approval Flow

1. Scheduled Cloud Flow: You can schedule a series of task which needs to be triggered periodically, like daily/weekly/hourly/yearly basis. You just have to schedule the task in the Schedule flow and it will be automatically triggered.

2. Automated Cloud Flow: It is an automation tasks which needs to be triggered by an event such as arrival of email, field value changing in dynamics CRM etc. You can simply automate the action on the event, and it will be automatically triggered.

3. Instant Cloud Flow: Instant Flow require manual intervention to execute the automate tasks designed. These flow trigger instantly on a click of button. Alternatively, you can also trigger manually.

4. Desktop Flow: These flows automate a series of tasks on web or desktop. You can simply automate your tedious periodic tasks and automate them. To create desktop flow in Power Automate select the App and click on New Flow.

5. Approval Flow: These flows help to manage the approval of documents/processes over various platform like SharePoint, OneDrive, Dynamics 365 etc. Approval flow play a vital role when multiple approvals are required and can be simply provided from their email inbox.
